recipient for 2008:
It is an honor to notify
members of the VBIDA Board that Julia Ann Greenwood, Head of
The New Community School, has been nominated as recipient of
the 2008 Rebecca Brock Richardson Award.
Julia Ann is well known to many in the field of dyslexia. She
has served on the Boards of the Orton Dyslexia Society (IDA)
and the Learning Disabilities Council. Currently she is on the
Board of Advisors of the Kildonan School in New York. She also
serves on the Executive Committee of the Virginia Association
of Independent Schools.
The New Community School located in Richmond, Virginia began
in 1974 under the tutelage of Alice Ansara, a well known
educator in the field of dyslexia. Julia Ann became its Head
in 1977. She has steadfastly supported and maintained the
school's original mission to provide a college preparatory
program for dyslexic middle and upper school students of
average or above average intelligence.
VBIDA's Rebecca Brock Richardson Nominating Chair wishes to
